Tragic Discovery: Woman Missing While Walking Dog Found Deceased in Beverly Lake
Owen Kasozi, a 30-year-old woman from Danvers, was reported missing on Christmas Eve after she was last seen entering the J.C. Phillips Nature Preserve in Beverly around 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Authorities launched a search for her when she did not return, and tragically, she was found dead in Wenham Lake in Beverly on Wednesday.
Mysterious Disappearance
Kasozi was reportedly walking her dog at the nature preserve before her disappearance. Her dog was found alone in Topsfield on Tuesday night. Investigators believe that she fell into the freezing lake and was unable to free herself from the icy waters, leading to her tragic death.
Search Efforts and Condolences
Authorities do not suspect foul play at this time, but Kasozi’s official cause of death is pending investigation by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Search efforts involved Beverly police and fire crews, Massachusetts State Police detectives, the State Police Air Wing unit, and the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council.
Essex District Attorney Paul F. Tucker expressed his condolences, stating, “This is not the search outcome that anyone was hoping for. Our thoughts are with her family as they begin to cope with this painful loss.” Beverly Police Chief John G. LeLacheur also extended his sympathies to Kasozi’s family and thanked all the first responders involved in the search process.
Remembering Owen Kasozi
Kasozi’s family has started a GoFundMe to raise money for her funeral expenses, describing her as a vibrant soul who brought joy and laughter to everyone she met. They emphasized her passion for life, ability to make others feel valued and loved, and deep connection to her family and friends. Her absence will be profoundly felt in their lives.
