Authorities done found the body that might be Azriel Lopez from Lawrence. It was Robin Strong from Tewksbury who came back to Lowell on April 20, 2025, where they thought a lil’ dude fell into the Merrimack River. And guess what? They actually found the body, which they think is Azriel Lopez from Lawrence. Pat Greenhouse from The Boston Globe snapped a pic.
The body of the 4-year-old kiddo who got swept away by the Merrimack River was found on Friday, officials say. So, like, at 9 a.m., this off-duty lieutenant from the Massachusetts State Police was just chillin’ on the river in his own boat when he spotted what looked like a body near the Trull Brook Golf Course in Tewksbury. The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office said they came over and scooped up the body, which they think is Azriel Lopez from Lawrence. About 25 agencies, including the Massachusetts State Police, Lowell police, and the Boston Fire Department, have been on the hunt for the kid since April 19 when he fell into the river. Seems like this river has seen its fair share of tragic accidents, with other children drowning in the past few years, like an 11-year-old girl in 2021 and a 7-year-old girl in 2023.

Alright, so now we know that this poor lil’ kid Azriel Lopez might have been found in the river. It’s like a real tragedy, man. But the good thing is that they were able to recover the body and give some closure to the family. Not really sure why this matters, but it’s always important to know when authorities are doing their best to find someone who’s gone missing. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like we should all take a moment to appreciate the hard work these agencies are putting in to bring closure to these heartbreaking situations.
