Realtors Sue Head of Closed Marshfield Real Estate Firm for $500K in Unpaid Commissions
In a shocking turn of events, a dozen realtors have come forward to file a lawsuit against Stephen D. Webster, the owner of a now-closed real estate company, for allegedly withholding nearly $500,000 in commissions and loan repayments. The lawsuits, filed in Plymouth Superior Court on Dec. 30, paint a grim picture of the sudden closure of Success Real Estate and the financial turmoil left in its wake.
The Sudden Closure of Success Real Estate
On December 14, Webster abruptly closed the doors of Success Real Estate, sending shockwaves through his staff via email. In the email, Webster expressed deep regret over the closure, stating, “At this moment we will no longer be accepting any new business.” The closure left many realtors in the lurch, unsure of what would become of their hard-earned commissions and loans.
Unfair and Deceptive Business Practices
According to the civil complaints filed against Webster and his company, realtors are owed a staggering amount in unpaid commissions and loans. One realtor, Kristen Dailey, of Hanover, is owed close to $153,000 in commissions for properties she sold. The remaining plaintiffs are collectively owed $337,556 in commissions and loans provided to Webster.
The lawsuits allege that Webster engaged in unfair and deceptive business practices by accepting sale proceeds and failing to pay agreed-upon commissions, as well as embezzling funds from closed real estate transactions. Some plaintiffs even claim that Webster induced them to make personal loans under false pretenses, further exacerbating the financial losses suffered by the realtors.
A Personal Touch: Standing Up Against Injustice
As we read about the realtors who have been wronged by Webster’s actions, it’s hard not to feel a sense of empathy for their plight. These hardworking individuals put their trust in a company that failed them when they needed it most. The personal stories of financial hardship and betrayal serve as a stark reminder of the importance of standing up against injustice, no matter how powerful the wrongdoer may seem.
In the face of adversity, these realtors have chosen to take a stand and seek justice through the legal system. Their courage and determination are a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of betrayal and deceit. As the lawsuits against Webster move forward, we can only hope that these realtors receive the justice and compensation they rightfully deserve.
