On Thursday, Dec. 12, the world lost a remarkable soul as Barbara Molony Elliott, 82, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, passed away after a valiant battle against cancer. Throughout her life, she touched the hearts of those around her with her unwavering strength, boundless love, and inspiring spirit. Her devoted husband, Bud, stood by her side during her illness and throughout their 56 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and partnership.
### Early Years and Career
Barbara’s journey began in New York City, where she pursued her passion for music by studying piano under a renowned concert pianist. Her love for the arts led her to frequent the NYC Ballet, work as a child model, and even spend time in the enchanting city of Paris. However, her heart longed for the tranquility of the countryside, a dream that came true when her family settled in the picturesque community of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. After graduating from Mountain Lakes High School, Barbara ventured to Ohio for college, attending Wittenberg University and embarking on a transformative summer traveling across Europe.
### Commitment to Service and Family
Barbara’s career in Human Resources in NYC was marked by dedication and ambition, balancing full-time work at Monsanto with pursuing an MBA at night. Her life took a new turn when she met Bud Elliott, sparking a beautiful relationship that led to the birth of their daughter Kim. Moving to Rochester, New York, and later Fullerton, California, Barbara’s passion for volunteer work blossomed as she founded a children’s after-school program in arts and sciences, which garnered recognition with the Disneyland Community Service Award.
### Legacy of Love and Service
Transitioning to Massachusetts, Barbara continued her legacy of community service in Wenham, where she replicated her successful children’s program, served in various leadership roles, and became a prominent figure at the Manchester Yacht Club. Her dedication to family shone through in countless vacations, reunions, and cherished moments with her grandchildren, earning her the endearing title of “Baba.” Barbara’s life was a tapestry of love, service, and gratitude, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
