Sarina Mineo Myers: A Life Well-Lived

Sarina Mineo Myers, a beloved member of the Duxbury community, passed away in her home on Saturday, December 7, surrounded by loved ones. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity that touched the lives of all who knew her.

A Life in the Spotlight

Born in the Bronx, NY in 1941, Sarina’s life was marked by a deep love for the stage. From her early days in theater to her role in a Broadway production of “South Pacific,” Sarina’s passion for performance was evident. She shared this love with her brother, the renowned film actor Sal Mineo, forming a bond that lasted a lifetime.

Sarina’s journey was not without its challenges. In 1951, she faced a severe bout of bulbar poliomyelitis, a moment that would shape her future. Alongside her brother Sal, she joined Teens Against Polio, advocating for the polio vaccine and spreading awareness about the importance of public health.

A Commitment to Education and Family

After graduating from Mamaroneck High School and earning her degree in elementary education, Sarina dedicated herself to teaching. For ten years, she shared her passion for learning with students in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Her impact extended beyond the classroom, as she instilled in her daughter Samantha a love of reading, writing, and the arts.

In 1970, Sarina married Dr. Charles “Chip” Myers, beginning a partnership that would last over five decades. Together, they traveled the world, raised their daughter Samantha, and built a life filled with love and adventure. Sarina’s warmth and compassion touched all those around her, creating a sense of community wherever she went.

A Lasting Legacy

Sarina leaves behind a family and a community who will forever cherish her memory. Her daughter Samantha, grandsons, nieces, nephews, and friends will carry on her spirit of kindness and generosity. While she may no longer be with us, Sarina’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched.

In memory of Sarina Mineo Myers, donations can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or the National Foundation of Swallowing Disorders. As we mourn the loss of a remarkable woman, let us also celebrate the life she lived and the love she shared with all who knew her.
