teen-driver-charged-for-crashing-into-school-bus-while-on-cellphone

An 18-year-old driver in Lunenburg, Massachusetts, recently got into a bit of a pickle after admitting to using a cellphone while behind the wheel. This not-so-smart decision led them to drift into oncoming traffic and collide with a school bus. The good news is that no one on the bus, which was carrying about 20 riders, was hurt. Charges were filed against the unnamed driver on Tuesday following the incident on Lancaster Avenue. The driver confessed to being distracted by their phone, which caused them to veer into the other lane and crash into the school bus. The Lunenburg Police Department and Lunenburg Fire Rescue quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and arrangements were made for a second bus to transport the students to school. The police ruled out speed as a factor in the crash, attributing the collision to the driver’s negligence.

“Maybe it’s just me, but using a cellphone while driving seems like a pretty bad idea,” said a police spokesperson. They took the opportunity to remind everyone about the dangers of texting and driving, pointing residents to safety guidelines from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. “Not really sure why this matters, but just so you know, sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. At 55 mph, that’s like driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed.”

In conclusion, it’s crucial to prioritize safety on the road and avoid distractions like texting while driving. Let’s all do our part to keep ourselves and others safe while behind the wheel.
